Educational Scratch Game
Introduction:
For this summative our task is to create an educational Game, targeting a specific audience. I will be creating my game with Scratch and in this stage of completing my task, I will be researching how to create a fun game. I will try to target the people around my age and be inspired by the games in timezone and the websites I’ve listed below in the table, since some of them are educational, especially the trivia game. I want to create a trivia game which you can play with several other friends, but more pressuring and appropriate for our age. I will aim to make it fun and interesting so students and others wouldn’t want to stop playing, because they so desperately want to beat their family and friends, classmates or even teachers. I want players to get frustrated, excited and competitive when playing with friends, classmates, teachers or parents, because there would only be one winner. In this stage I won’t be doing any of that yet, though. I won’t be creating my game or even come to think of it yet, but what I will be doing is brainstorm ideas, ask myself guiding questions that could help me plan my commercial, and write a conclusion. To create a good project and to get a good grade, I will brainstorm several ideas that are easy to follow, I will think of a few plans, in case anything goes wrong, I will choose a final idea, make a to do list based on that idea, follow the steps listed below and create my game! To only get the information I want/need, I will be listing everything in the table below, so I can easily stay organized and make designing and planning easier. To summarize all of this information and stay organized during the create stage I will make a schedule, a script and an outline of my game, a To-do list and a list of the materials (images for sprites or backgrounds or sounds) I need. If I want to get a good grade on this summative, I will have to stick to my schedules and lists, stay focused and not procrastinate, following the strategies of my Design Cycle video, which was the first summative we had. Although, if I follow all of the instructions and goals I set for myself and give myself enough time (like for every other summative) to code and edit, I should be able to get a high score in this summative, just like my previous IT summatives. If I follow what I mentioned below, in the table, plan my Design and Plan stage well and follow everything I’ve planned, this project should be very successful. My hopes and standards are very high for this project, since I actually enjoyed the formative and feel like I learned a whole lot I could apply in my summative game, with the help of a few youtube videos, other websites and the information I have collected throughout the Design cycle.
IDENTIFY THE CHALLENGE:
The challenge is to make a game that is educational, but at the same, fun to play.
DESIGN BRIEF:
I will take the first to second day to do research on basic/background information, to summarize what I want to feature in my game. Then I will make an outline of it, so I will have it easier to code and organize. In the end I will probably follow everything I have mentioned here.
Design Specification: (minimum of 5 maximum of 7 do’s and don’ts)
-
The project should have been created with scratch
-
The project should be educational
-
The project should contain actual, accurate and up to date information
-
The game should be multi and single player
-
The game should be aesthetically appealing
-
In the game should be different from regular trivia games
Research information
Refer to the student instructions and use the following chart to layout your work. Add more rows as you need them!
Write a short conclusion based on the Challenge, Design Specification that will guide you towards brainstorming your designing, which is the next step of the Design Cycle. Do not include your brainstorming here.
Following the design requirements I made for myself, I investigated and listed 10 ways to make my game fun and educational and get a good grade. I asked myself a few questions on how to make good games and came to the conclusion that if I want to get a good grade for this, I will have to work hard, not procrastinate and follow the instructions I gave myself.

Refection:
I did not find this stage very useful, because all information I found was already discovered in my formative maze. I know how to create games with Scratch, I know what is educational and what isn't and I know the majority of the information above through common sense. Maybe this information would've been more useful, if we didn't create a maze/ formative game before.
